Session 6 - Christ's Priesthood and the Eucharist
  • What did you learn about Jesus as high priest?
  • Why does Pacwa say that the priesthood of Melchizedek is superior to that of Levi?
  • How is the new covenant of Christ superior to the old covenant of Moses?
  • What was the most significant learning for you in this Bible Study on the Eucharist?
Please join us for the Lenten Small Group supper on Thursday, April 30, 7:00 PM in the cafeteria for all those who participated in small group discussion and their families.  It is a potluck event, so bring something to share.

  1. #1 Jesus is the eternal high priest who lives forever, who offers the perfect sacrifice - himself. He is above all the other high priests throughout history and their sacrifices.

  2. Jesus is also sinless, unlike the other high priests throughout history.

  3. #3 The old covenant with the people of Israel was a conditional one, God promised life in the Promised Land if the people kept His commandments. This covenant was sealed with the blood of bulls. The new covenant is an EVERLASTING one, the promise of eternal life, sealed with the blood of Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice.

    1. This is one of those elements that really came across in the liturgies in Holy Week and Easter. Mary Beth

  4. #4 I have enjoyed this study of the Eucharist so much, I listen more closely to the words spoken during Mass, understanding the history behind them. I see how the Eucharistic celebration is a "sacrifice", I never saw it this way before. I can honestly say I am more connected to what is happening on the altar. I enjoyed reading the Bible, something I don't regularly do. I think the Holy Spirit nudged me join this on line group and I am happy I listened.

    1. I am sorry we didn't get more folks posting. Those who were in a small group all felt like you did that this study has made a difference in their lives and in the way they celebrate Eucharist. Particularly during Holy Week the readings and celebrations had more meaning because we were so familiar with the stories and the connections from the Old Testament and the Old Covenant compared to the new. 2. Well, I hope you do this again next year, despite the lack of response. I really looked forward to doing the readings and the "homework".

    3. I am very happy to hear that. I need the encouragement. I have talked to a couple of the ofther folks who had signed up and they, too, really intended to participate, but life got in the way. I just can't be discouraged. Thanks for your wonderful input!

    4. I know life gets crazy some time, but as Father Michael always says, we need some quiet time to just "be". I am lucky and happy that I do have chunks of time when I can just sit and relax. My work schedule is the best, I have Monday and Wed off and time in the mornings that I do work, so I have a lot of ME time. Wednesday is my volunteering day which I am happy I can do......Happy Memorial Day!

  6. Just as an aside...just finished watching The Passion of the Christ....saw it three times and I have to say that EVERY Christian should see this movie to get the message that JESUS DIED FOR EACH OF US!!! I think that this time I was moved so much, more so than the previous times i saw the movie...I have to add that when my daughter saw this movie, several years ago,she was so moved that she chose the name VERONICA as her Confirmation name, I remember meeting up with her after seeing the movie at a CCD class and she was in tears...then she chose the name...I believe that this movie makes a strong impact on those seeing it, and again I was moved by the scenes from the Last Supper, and that makes me pay special attention at the Consecration of the Mass, I see Jesus seated at the table with His friends....

    1. I have not seen the movie is a couple years, but I do remember how moving it was. Are you watching the AD that has been on NBC on Sunday nights?- The story begins with Easter and they say it is very powerful showing how important is our faith in the Resurrection.

    2. I did see an ad for the show The Bible, don't know if that's the same one you are talking about. It looked good but I didn't watch. I hadn't see The Passion in years, either, until I just happened to come upon it while switching channels. The woman playing Mary really moved me. Well, I guess this is it, my friend, thanks for "chatting with me", see you in church!
