Session 4
  • What did you learn about the significance of the multiplication of loaves and fishes?
  • What is important about Jesus saying "I am"?
  • According to John 6 ultimately what Jesus asks of us is faith. How would you describe your faith in the Eucharist?

  1. # I never saw the correlation between the miracle of the loaves and fishes and the Eucharist before, but after reading this chapter I saw that just as Jesus fed the multiples with loaves and fish(human nourishment) another "miracle" takes place at mass, Jesus is now "feeding" the multiples(church goers) with Spiritual food, His own body and blood.

    1. I love that idea of nourishment. We sometimes forget that Jesus is to be our Food for the journey of our everyday lives.

  2. # I believe the term "I am" teaches us that Jesus is divine, He was, is, and will ever be.

  3. # 3 I have to say that I have always believed in the religion that I was taught as a youngster, having gone through 12 years of Catholic schooling. I have always had strong faith in God. However,a few years back, after reading The DaVinci Code, I have to say I started to have some doubts about the teachings of the church and started reading further into the topics in that book. I started questioning what was really happening at Mass, "is this really the Body and Blood of Christ"? Was Jesus married? So many of my strong beliefs and things I have been taught over the years were now doubted in my mind.
I was getting confused, so I stopped all my "research" into the topics mentioned in the Da Vinci code, looked into my heart and soul and got back to where I belonged - I can say I now have a stronger relationship with the Mass and the teachings of Jesus and my faith is stronger, as well. That is why when I saw that the topic of this year's Bible study was The Eucharist, I felt strongly about doing this on line discussion.

    1. It's amazing to me that we can "feed" our doubts sometimes when we read an intriguing book like The Da Vinci Code or talk to someone who is convicted about beliefs contrary to our own. I have followed that path from time to time in life, as well. It shows me how important it is to nourish and strengthen my faith through prayer and worship and taking time for spiritual reading, too.

  4. I love praying with God's words used by Jesus "I am." I love to ponder how we are called to be one with them - one with Jesus - one with God - one with the Body of Christ. It is a great challenge and a wonderful invitation Jesus offers to us.
I ran across this video from the Dynamic Catholic folks this week, I think you'll all enjoy. Here it is.
